As the year draws to a close, it’s about time we mulled over the menswear moves that really mattered in 2014, and the stylish men who made them. After much deliberation, discussion (and possibly a few bouts of fisticuffs), here are – in no particular order – the FashionBeans ten best dressed men of 2014…

Idris Elba

Mr Elba’s style stock is, like his Hollywood career, going from strength to strength. Hotly tipped to be the next James Bond, Elba certainly has the sartorial kudos the iconic role requires, as he’s shown both on and off the red carpet this past year. Rarely audacious with his approach to style, Elba offers a masterclass to brawny blokes on how to flatter physique and proportions without resorting to the skin-tight t-shirt. He’s strictly stuck to a slim-fit that flatters his musculature without making it farcical – something every heavyset guy should be striving for. Elba’s stand-out staple for both on- and off-duty dressing is the overcoat. Often choosing to make a statement piece of outerwear the focal point of his attire, this actor/musician fully appreciates the importance of immaculate fit.
